Facial Scrubs You Can Make at Home
One part of any facial routine includes the process of exfoliation. It’s highly recommended to have at least 1 to 3 times per week of a gentle exfoliating scrub to help unclog pores and remove off dead skin cells. The best time to exfoliate the skin is nighttime because your skincare products tend to be absorbed better while you’re sleeping. Once you try any of the homemade exfoliating scrub types listed below, your skin will feel smooth and soft. Also, remember to exfoliate on clean skin always.
Egg White & Rice Exfoliating Facial Scrub
If you want to lighten skin discolorations and brighten complexions, ground rice powder can be a great cleanser for you. Brown rice flour has anti-inflammatory and oil-absorbing benefits that can help treat sensitive and oily skin. Mix with one tbsp. of ground almonds if you want to fight to age.
Ingredients:
- 1 egg white
- 2 tbsp. brown rice
Grind the brown rice grain using a coffee grinder until it’s fine. Then, create a paste by adding an egg and whipping it. Massage the scrub gently into your skin in circular, small motions to help remove and exfoliate your dead skin cells. Lastly, remove the scrub by rinsing it with warm water.
Brown sugar & honey scrub
Sugar and honey are natural moisture preservers—called humectants— making a gentle scrub to lock in moisture, clear out pores, and buff away flakes.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp. of ray honey
- 1 tbsp. of fine brown sugar
Mix the honey and sugar in a bowl. Then, use your clean fingertips to apply the scrub to your face very gently in circular and small motions to help in the exfoliation process without causing damage to the skin. After that, use warm water to rinse it and a washcloth to eliminate any honey left if required.
Gentle oat scrub
Anti-inflammatory and soothing oats are perfect for people with sensitive skin. Ground oats can help unclog the pores gently while their natural saponins can absorb and cleanse oil and dirt.
Ingredients:
- Water
- ½ cup of uncooked old-fashioned oats.
Put the dry oats in a blender and pulse them until they are finely ground. Once ground, get a pinch of it into the palm of your hand. After that, put some water until it forms like a paste. Massage it onto your neck and face gently. If you want to use it for later, you can always store the ground oats within an airtight container.
Baking Soda Add-in
Baking soda has a superfine texture. It serves as at-home microdermabrasion for all types of skin. Moreover, such an inexpensive ingredient can help in absorbing excess oil, so it’s particularly beneficial if you have oily skin.
Ingredients:
- Your usual liquid skin cleanser
- 1 tsp. of baking soda
This is perhaps the simplest scrub you can make. Simply add 1 tsp. of baking soda into a small part of the usual cleanser that you use. And now, you’ve just concocted a product that can work as an exfoliating cleanser.
